Chage and Aska formed in the 1970s, with Chage (Shigeki Chaya) and Aska (Masataka Yaguchi) starting out as teenagers in a band called Down Town Boogie Woogie Band in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture. They signed with Yamaha Music Foundation in 1979 and released their debut album 'Minna no Jinsei' the following year. Their second album 'Fushigi' in 1981 included a title track that became a hit and helped establish them nationally.
During the 1980s they released albums like 'Mosaic', 'Standing Ovation', and 'Code Name Is Love'. Their songs 'Say Yes' and 'On Your Mark' became particularly well-known. They also contributed music to films and games, including 'Something There' for Street Fighter.
Their partnership continued for decades, though they faced some challenges in later years. The duo's work maintained a following for its melodic approach and straightforward songwriting.
