Chali 2Na, born Charles Stewart II, came up in Los Angeles in the early 1990s. He's best known for his deep, resonant voice and his role in the hip-hop group Jurassic 5, which formed in 1993 with DJs Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark and MCs Akil, Zaakir, and Mark 7even. Their 1998 single "What's Golden" became a defining track for them.
After Jurassic 5 disbanded in 2006, Chali 2Na started putting out solo work. He released albums like "Fish Market" in 2009 and "House Rules" in 2014. Songs like "Comin' Thru" and "Lock Shit Down" from his solo catalog show him working in that same soulful, lyrically conscious lane he helped establish earlier.
He's also collaborated with artists outside the hip-hop world, including Tony Allen and Erykah Badu. The track "4 Be Be" features Ming Xia. His music since leaving the group hasn't strayed far from the jazz and funk-influenced sound Jurassic 5 was known for.
