Chambers Brothers

The Chambers Brothers were four brothers from Mississippi who started as a family gospel and blues group in the early 1950s. They moved to Los Angeles in 1962 and found their footing in the folk clubs there, singing with the kind of harmony that comes from growing up together.

In 1968, they released 'Time Has Come Today,' a song that stretched past the six-minute mark with its chanted vocals and a beat that felt both urgent and hypnotic.

They kept recording through the late 1960s and into the 1970s, letting more rock and funk into their sound. The lineup included brothers George, Willie, Lester, and Joe, with Leon joining later on bass. They played shows into the 1980s, but the spotlight had largely moved on by then.
