Chanson À Répondre was a French duo formed in the late 1970s by Catherine Ribeiro and Dominique Blanc-Francard. Ribeiro had previously been part of the avant-garde group Alpes, while Blanc-Francard brought his guitar work to the partnership. Their name translates to "Song to Answer," which hints at the call-and-response quality in some of their material.
Their music started with folk and medieval touches but gradually incorporated jazz, rock, and world music elements. They released several albums in the late 1970s and 1980s, including "La Destinée" in 1980, which featured the title track that became one of their best-known songs. Another early work, "La Rose Au Bois," came out in 1979.
On stage, Ribeiro's vocal delivery and Blanc-Francard's guitar playing created an intimate live experience. They toured across Europe, performing for various audiences. Their recordings from that period capture a blend of poetic lyrics and evolving musical arrangements that moved beyond their initial folk roots.
