The band Charles Chaplin formed in the 1960s, led by vocalist Paul Cacia. They took their name from the silent film star, whose work influenced their approach. Their 1972 debut album included a cover of "Smile," a song originally written by Charlie Chaplin for his 1936 film Modern Times.
That version of "Smile" became their best-known recording. The band also released other material like "Swing Little Girl" and "This Is My Song," and put out albums including The Charles Chaplin Band Plays the Great Classics in 1973. Personnel changes happened over time, with Cacia continuing as the central figure.
They're remembered mostly for that one recording, which has had a longer life than the band itself. It's the thing people mention when the name comes up.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
