Charlus

Charlus is a French band that formed with three musicians: Romain Lefèvre on vocals, Florent Barbier on guitar, and Laurent Bardainne handling bass and drums. Their music draws from French chanson traditions while incorporating rock elements, though early critics weren't always convinced by the combination.

Their 2017 album "A la Goutte d'Or" gave them their breakthrough, with the title track becoming particularly well-known. Other songs like "Belleville-Ménilmontant" and "Dans mon aéroplane" show their range, from neighborhood portraits to more playful material.

Some of their lyrics touch on social and political themes, which has occasionally drawn criticism but also connected them with listeners who appreciate that perspective. They followed their debut with "Les Ombres" in 2019, a more atmospheric collection that explored personal themes alongside their established style.
