Cheatahs were a Los Angeles band that formed in the mid-1970s, led by frontman Johnny "Cheetah" Chrome. Their debut album "Coared" came out in 1978 and helped establish their sound, which mixed hard rock with funk elements. The group included bassist Tony "Tiger" Smith and drummer Bobby "Black" Thompson alongside Chrome.
They released several albums through the early 1980s, including "Razorblades" in 1979 and "Speed Kills" in 1980. Songs like "Controller" and "The Swan" appeared in their catalog during this period. Their lyrics sometimes touched on themes that drew criticism, and in 1980 they faced legal trouble related to drug possession.
By 1982 they had put out "Out of Control," which would be their final studio album. While their career was relatively brief, their music found an audience that responded to its energy and directness.
