Cherrelle is an R&B singer from Philadelphia who started singing in church choirs. In the early 1980s, producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis discovered her and signed her to their Flyte Tyme Records label. Her self-titled debut album came out in 1984 with the single 'Stay with Me' reaching the top ten on the Billboard R&B chart.
Her most recognizable song is probably 'Saturday Love,' a duet with Alexander O'Neal from 1986 that topped the R&B chart. Other songs like 'I Didn't Mean To Turn You On' and 'Never Knew Love Like This' also became hits during the 1980s and 1990s. She worked with O'Neal on several tracks and recorded albums including 'High Priority' and 'Affair.'
Cherrelle faced some vocal cord problems at one point that affected her singing. Her later albums include 'The Woman I Am' from 1995 and 'The Love I Never Had' from 2008.
