Cherry Girls formed in 2004 as an all-female Brazilian band with five members: Renata, Carol, Milena, Carla, and Marcella. They released their debut album 'Vem Que Eu Te Amo' in 2007, which included a title track that became popular on radio and charts.
In 2010, percussionist Marcella left the group for personal reasons, and they continued with a new drummer. Their song 'Como Dói' from 2015 drew some attention when it was criticized for its themes, though the band described it as being about heartbreak rather than anything more troubling.
