Chico Antonio

Chico Antonio came from rural Minas Gerais, where he grew up hearing the traditional rhythms that would shape his music. His song 'Agricultura Familiar' became something of an anthem for farm workers, capturing their daily lives in a way that felt familiar to many Brazilians.

He recorded albums like 'Lavoura' in 1985 and 'Agricultura Familiar' in 1991, working with musicians including accordion player Carlos Henrique. Other songs like 'Pinto Pelado' and 'Boi Tangão' carried that same grounded quality, rooted in the sounds of the countryside.

His lyrics sometimes drew criticism for speaking plainly about rural workers' rights, but he kept writing and performing. The music stayed close to its origins, avoiding the polished production that became common in later sertaneja.
