Chico da Tina

Chico da Tina was a Portuguese band that formed in 1991 around vocalist António Manuel Ribeiro, who went by the same name. He'd previously been part of Xutos & Pontapés. The group included guitarist João Gil, bassist Paulo Gil, and drummer Pedro Gil, sometimes referred to as the Gil brothers. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1992, and its lead single "Põe-te Fino" became a hit with younger listeners.

Their sound mixed Portuguese folk with rock, punk, and reggae elements. Ribeiro's lyrics often carried humor and social commentary, delivered in a nasal, expressive vocal style. Songs like "Todo o Dia" and "Minho Trapstar" reflected this approach.

The band faced criticism from conservative groups and media over Ribeiro's lyrics and stage presence, with accusations about promoting drug use and promiscuity. This led to some concert cancellations and a legal dispute with a politician.
