Archive material and source history

Chilliwack was a Canadian rock band that formed in the early 1970s. They had a run of albums through the 1970s and into the 1980s, including titles like 'Dreams, Dreams, Dreams,' 'Riding High,' and 'Breakdown in Tokyo.' Their sound was straightforward rock with melodic hooks, heard on songs like 'Fly At Night' and 'My Girl.'

In 1980, they released 'I Believe,' a ballad that became their biggest hit. The song's simple, earnest quality connected with listeners and gave the band its most recognizable moment. They kept recording after that, putting out albums like 'Whatcha Gonna Do?' and 'Thundering Road' in the early 1980s.

The band's lineup included Bill Henderson on vocals and guitar, Brian MacLeod on drums, Glenn Ball on guitar, Ross Turney on keyboards, and Ab Bryant on bass. They faced some difficult periods, including MacLeod's leukemia diagnosis in 1977. The group continued working through that time, releasing 'Wayward Fire' the same year.

Chilliwack's catalog holds a place in Canadian rock from that era. Beyond 'I Believe,' tracks like 'Baby Blue' and 'California Girl' show their knack for accessible, guitar-driven pop. They were recognized with Juno Awards and have been included in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
