Chilo & Juan

Chilo & Juan were a Cuban duo who formed in Havana around 1949. Chilo Moré, born in 1925, and Juan Carlos Alfonso, born in 1928, came together through a shared interest in music. They worked in styles like bolero and son montuno, and their 1963 album was simply titled 'Contigo' after their most recognized song.

Their music sometimes drew attention for its romantic themes during a period of political change in Cuba. They recorded several albums including 'Nuestra Historia' in 1955 and 'Canciones de Amor' in 1957. Moré handled most of the vocals while Alfonso played guitar and sang harmony.

Though details about their later career are sparse, their song 'Contigo' has remained familiar to listeners who appreciate mid-century Cuban music. Another track, 'Quédate,' also appears among their better-known recordings.
