Chimaera formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1998, started by guitarist Marcus Jidell and vocalist Kim Strömberg. They put out their first album, "The Impossibility of Reason," which mixed melodic death metal with symphonic touches. A few years later, they released a self-titled record in 2005 that included tracks like "Essence of Darkness."
In 2009, Strömberg left the band, which marked a shift for Chimaera. They kept recording after that, with albums like "The Age of Entropy" in 2007 and "The Scars of Man" in 2011. Other musicians like keyboardist Jens Johansson and drummer Alexander Lundqvist played with them at different times.
Around 2003, there were some accusations about unauthorized sample use, though the band denied it. Their music often blended heavy riffs with melodic passages, heard on songs such as "Ridden By The Storm" and "Morning Shade."
