Chinchilla was a trio that formed in the late 1990s with vocalist and guitarist Evelyn Blackwood, bassist Jake Raven, and drummer Alex Cole. They came together in a small forest town, and their music pulled from gothic rock, folk, and some electronic textures.
Their 2006 album 'A Dance With The Devil' gave the band its most recognizable song. That track, along with others like 'After The War' and 'Broken Heart,' dealt with heavy themes, addiction, mental anguish, the aftermath of conflict. Blackwood's lyrics were direct and often dark, which drew a mix of admiration and criticism.
Live shows were known for their intensity. The band didn't offer much in the way of explanation, preferring to let the music and their cryptic stage presence speak for itself. They put out a handful of albums, including 'Whispers in the Dark' in 1999 and 'Echoes of the Abyss' in 2003, before going quiet after 2010's 'Ashes and Embers.'
