Archive material and source history

Chocolatte was a Brazilian band that formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960s. The group included vocalist Regina Célia, guitarist and keyboardist José Carlos, bassist Nilton César, and drummer Wilson Bruno. Their music drew some criticism for its outspoken lyrics and stage presence.

In 1972, they released their debut album featuring the single "O Defunto e o Coveiro." The song became a hit in Brazil, though its story about a romance between a corpse and a gravedigger was considered taboo by some listeners. Other songs like "Quem Faltava Chegar" and "Senhor de Aruanda" also appeared in their catalog.

They put out several more albums during the 1970s, including "Mulher Madura" in 1973 and "Agora Sim" in 1977. The band performed at venues like the Copacabana Palace Hotel and Maracanã Stadium before disbanding later in the decade.
