The Seattle singer whose solo work included 'Preaching The End Of The World' and a cover of 'Redemption Song.'
For a quick sense of his range, listen to 'Seasons' and 'Preaching The End Of The World.' They frame what he could do alone.
Cornell's voice defined Soundgarden's sound when grunge was taking over in the late '80s and early '90s. He wrote songs like 'Preaching The End Of The World' on his own, showing a different side from the band material. That voice carried through everything, from 'Badmotorfinger' to his solo recordings.
He started with Soundgarden in Seattle, putting out 'Ultramega OK' in 1988 and following it with 'Louder Than Love' and 'Badmotorfinger.' Later he worked on his own songs, including 'Preaching The End Of The World' and a version of 'Redemption Song.' He died in 2017.
