Editor's note

Daughtry, the American Idol rock band that stuck around.

A post-Idol rock act that kept making albums and shifting lineups for over a decade.

For a sense of their sound, "It's Not Over" and "Life After You" are the ones that stuck. They're the kind of songs that still pop up on rock playlists years later.

They landed with a number one debut album in 2006, right after Chris Daughtry's Idol run. Songs like "It's Not Over" became rock radio staples, and they've kept releasing records ever since, from "Leave This Town" to "Cage to Rattle." It's a straightforward case of TV fame turning into a real, lasting band.

The band formed in 2006 around Chris Daughtry after his American Idol season. Their first two albums both debuted at number one, and they've put out several more since, with lineup changes along the way like Josh Steely and Brian Ebe leaving in the early 2010s.

Daughtry formed in 2006 after Chris Daughtry became known as a finalist on the fifth season of American Idol. The band's self-titled debut album came out that same year and went to number one on the Billboard 200.

Their second album, "Leave This Town," also debuted at number one in 2009. Songs like "No Surprise" and "Life After You" kept them on rock playlists through the next few years. The band has released several more albums since, including "Baptized" in 2013 and "Cage to Rattle" in 2018.

Over time, the lineup has shifted. Guitarist Josh Steely left in 2013, and drummer Brian Ebe departed the following year. They were replaced by Tom Metzger and Brandon Maclin, with bassist Josh Paul and guitarist Brian Craddock remaining from the early years. Chris Daughtry continues to front the band.
