Chris Hart was born in Glasgow in 1965, where his father played saxophone and introduced him to jazz and soul. He started singing early, influenced by Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers. In the mid-1980s, he formed the band Hue and Cry with his brother Pat. Their 1987 debut album 'Seduced and Abandoned' included the song 'Labour of Love'.
After some personal difficulties, Hart began recording on his own in 1993 with the album 'Soul in Motion'. That record contained 'Home', which became one of his most recognized songs. Other tracks like 'I love you' and 'Brand New Day' also appeared in his solo work.
He continued performing and recording, though the Hue and Cry material and his own songs like 'Anata He' and 'Memento' represent different sides of his output. The music tends toward soulful vocals and straightforward arrangements rather than elaborate production.
