Took a trip to the great lakes November 1819
Just myself and some moons boots no one to accompany me
When I got to the beach the sand had been frozen to stone
And a sign warned that lamprey had taken the lake for their home
Still a quarter mile out from the beach where i saw the first waves
And a small group of lake trout had gathered to watch as I sank
Under thick sheets of ice breathing pockets of air on the way.
Each fish patiently waiting for me to remove their lamprey
