Christer Sjögren

Christer Sjögren was born in Hagfors, Sweden in 1950. He started performing at local clubs and talent shows, influenced by both traditional Swedish schlager music and American singers like Elvis Presley. His 1975 debut single 'Jag har hört om en stad' became a national hit, though some early critics dismissed him as derivative of other Swedish singers.

His music often featured soulful vocals over dramatic arrangements, drawing from folk traditions while incorporating pop and country elements. Songs like 'Barnatro' and 'Gyllne morgon' explored themes of love and longing that resonated with Swedish audiences. He became a regular presence on television and radio through the 1970s and 1980s.

Sjögren worked with producer Anders Engbergs and performed with the backing band Viktoria. He released dozens of albums over his career, including 'Du är min, min älskade' in 1983 and 'Drömmar om dig' in 1992. His later work showed a different tone after he spoke publicly about recovery from alcohol abuse and mental health challenges.

His songs remain familiar in Swedish popular culture, with titles like 'Guldgrävarsången' and 'Han är min sång och min glädje' still heard regularly. He received the Royal Medal of the Order of the Seraphim from the Swedish government.
