Editor's note

Christina Grimmie, a voice that found its audience online

A YouTube singer who reached The Voice stage and left behind a catalog of pop covers and originals.

For a sense of her range, listen to her take on Somebody That I Used To Know and her original Above All That Is Random. They show what her fans connected with from the start.

She built a real following from her bedroom, posting singing videos on YouTube in 2009. That connection carried over to her time on Season 6 of NBC's The Voice in 2011, where she placed third. Her song Just a Dream, featuring Sam Tsui, became a genuine hit in 2013, topping iTunes charts in several countries and racking up over a billion views.

She started with YouTube covers, then released her debut EP Find Me in 2011 after The Voice. Her album With Love followed in 2013, the same year Just a Dream took off. She continued performing and releasing music, including tracks like I Bet You Don't Curse God and Snow White, until her death in 2016.
