Cia Bixo Doido came together in Salvador, Bahia in the early 1990s. The group included vocalist Renato de Castro, percussionist Walmir Borges, bassist Jose Coutinho, guitarist Pedro Moita, and saxophonist Thiago Franca. Their sound pulled from samba-reggae, axé music, and hard rock, which made them stand out in a crowded Brazilian scene.
In 1996, they released "Katiroba," a song that became a massive hit and topped the Brazilian charts. Its catchy melody and lyrics about life in Salvador connected with listeners across the country. The band's dance moves, called the "passinho do Katiroba," turned into a popular trend.
Cia Bixo Doido also put out tracks like "Tô Na Zueira" and "Vai Bixo Doido." Their music sometimes drew criticism for explicit content, but they kept performing at major festivals and concerts throughout Brazil.
