Cinema Sleep

Cinema Sleep formed in Melbourne in 2015 with Jake Davies on vocals and guitar, Ethan Hamilton on drums, and James Khong on bass. Their early EP 'The Echo' didn't catch much attention, but they kept working. By 2018, they released another EP called 'The Promise,' which included the song 'The Response.' That track became their most recognized work, with its melodic indie sound and lyrics that touched on heartbreak and resilience.

Around the time 'The Response' gained traction, some listeners pointed out similarities to another song, leading to plagiarism accusations. The band denied these claims, saying their work was original. They followed up with a debut album in 2019 titled 'The Distance,' which leaned into darker, more experimental territory compared to their earlier material.

In 2021, Cinema Sleep put out an EP called 'The Horizon,' shifting toward a more ethereal and introspective style. Throughout these releases, Davies's vocals and lyrical approach remained a focal point, supported by Hamilton's drumming and Khong's bass work. They haven't released much since, but 'The Response' still surfaces in indie playlists now and then.
