Cinemarte

Cinemarte formed in Lisbon in 2006, taking their name from a blend of 'cinema' and 'arte.' The group included guitarist Pedro de Castro, vocalist Joana Amendoeira, and bassist Luís Guerreiro. Their sound worked with traditional Portuguese fado, giving it a contemporary shape.

Their self-titled debut album came out in 2009. A few years later, the 2012 album 'Antes' became particularly well-known. The title track 'Antes' is a slow, melancholic ballad that resonated widely in Portugal. Other songs from their catalog include 'Dónde Estoy' and 'Mirar El Mar.'

They played in various venues and faced the ordinary pressures of keeping a band together. The music itself, with its cinematic quality and Amendoeira's distinctive voice, remained the central thing.
