Ciro Sarno

Ciro Sarno was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1944, into a family where music was part of the air. His father played accordion, and his brother Luis became a guitarist. As a teenager, he started writing songs, drawing from Bossa Nova and the folk sounds of Northeastern Brazil, along with the protest work of artists like Chico Buarque and Geraldo Vandré.

He faced threats and eventually went into exile in 1975, spending about a decade in Europe before returning after democracy was restored.

Sarno's songs, like 'Companheiro Solidão' and 'A Garrafa Sabe,' often carry a quiet, haunting quality, mixing melody with a sense of social observation. They don't shout; they settle in, which might be why they've stuck around for listeners who find something familiar in their tone.
