C. James formed in 2013 with three friends: Charlie Gough on vocals and guitar, James McDowall on bass, and Josh Hanson on drums. They put out their debut EP 'The Way We Are' in 2015. The single 'Streetlights' from that release caught on with listeners, becoming their most recognized song.

They followed with a second album, 'In the Shadow of the Sun,' in 2018. The band has also released other tracks like 'The Ocean' and 'Never Let Go.' In 2017, their work was interrupted by a legal dispute with their former record label.
