Background notes

Archive material and source history

Clarksville formed in 2005 with Matt Willis on vocals and guitar, Joe Cronin on guitar, Mike Phillips on bass, and Will Phoenix on drums. They put out their debut EP 'Begin' in 2008. The band's first full-length album came in 2011, titled 'Everyone Will Have Their Day' after its lead single. That song, a ballad about hope, became their best-known track.

They followed that album with 'Never Let Go' in 2014 and 'The Distance' in 2017. The band has shared stages with artists like Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. In 2016, a leaked demo of a politically charged song caused some debate among their listeners.
