Clasen formed in Salvador, Bahia around 2015 when songwriter Lucas Silveira, who had worked with the band Fresno, teamed up with vocalist Manu Lacerda. They released their debut EP 'Alice' in 2017, which included the single 'Calma, Baby.' That song found an audience in Brazil with its hushed melodies and Latin-infused beats.
Their lineup grew to include bassist Felipe Cazaux and drummer Lucas Oliveira. They followed 'Alice' with the EP 'Por Onde For' in 2018 and the albums 'Autoral' in 2019 and 'Rizoma' in 2021. In 2020, their song 'Sombra de Vento' was involved in plagiarism accusations from another artist, leading to some legal disputes.
They've performed at festivals in Brazil and developed a following for their quieter, introspective sound. The music often gets described as calming, which fits with their interest in mental health awareness.
