Classic Case formed in the early 2000s around vocalist and guitarist Matt Wilkie, with bassist Chris McGarry, drummer Chris Walker, and keyboardist Marc Calderone. They came together in the Chicago suburbs, drawn to atmospheric arrangements and thoughtful lyrics.
Their 2005 debut album 'Through the Lens' included the song 'Buildings,' which got attention on alternative radio. The track's piano melody and Wilkie's vocals connected with listeners, giving the band a moment of recognition.
After Walker left in 2007, Jared Spurgeon joined on drums. McGarry and Calderone departed in 2009, leaving Wilkie as the sole original member. He brought in bassist Matt Johnson and drummer Tyler Page for the 2011 album 'The Distance.'
Beyond 'Buildings,' their catalog includes songs like 'Down And Out,' 'Elegy,' 'Goner,' and 'Guilty Pleasure.'
