Clássico ao Extremo formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1996, started by violinist André Gadelha and percussionist Alex Brasil. They wanted to bring classical music and Brazilian samba together, which wasn't an obvious combination at the time. Their song 'Amizade' became their most recognizable piece.
Their first album came out in 2000, also called Clássico ao Extremo. They followed it with records like 'Amizade' in 2002, 'Samba de Concerto' in 2006, and 'Sinfonia Brasileira' in 2010. The group played everything from Bach to traditional Brazilian choros.
