Claudio Bonfim

Claudio Bonfim is a Brazilian singer and composer from Salvador, born in 1965. He started out in the late 1980s with a band called Terra Samba, but it was his solo work that really caught on. In 1991, he put out his debut album, which included the song 'Coisas de Casal.'

That song, 'Coisas de Casal,' became a kind of standard in Brazil, a ballad about relationships that people kept coming back to. It had a straightforward, melodic quality that felt familiar, drawing on samba and bossa nova traditions without making a big show of it. He kept recording through the mid-1990s, with albums like 'Só Pra Você' in 1993 and 'Amar É Bom' in 1995.

There was some noise around him at times, critics called his music too commercial, and there were whispers about similarities to other songs, but he mostly kept working. He didn't turn into a major crossover figure or reinvent anything; he just made the kind of music that stuck around in the background of a lot of Brazilian lives.
