Clay Hips

Clay Hips formed in the early 1990s around brothers Paul and Mark Kuykendall with drummer Mark Price. Their sound pulled from punk, folk, and country, which felt different from what was happening in grunge at the time. They put out their first album, 'Twenty Years,' which had some of the raw energy they were known for live.

Paul Kuykendall handled most of the vocals and lyrics, while his brother Mark played guitar and Price drummed. They followed 'Twenty Years' with albums like 'Two Times Shy' and 'Kiss on the Lips,' which showed them moving toward a quieter, more introspective feel.

In 1992 they released 'Disappointed,' a song that connected with people. Its straightforward lyrics about letdowns and that lingering melody made it stand out. Other songs from around that period, like 'Empty Set' and 'I Can't Say It's Love,' worked in a similar vein, direct, a little bruised, not trying to hide the rough edges.
