Background notes

Archive material and source history

Cliché formed in Alicante in the late 1990s with Antonia Jimenez on vocals, Javier Navarrete on guitar, Miguel Palomares on bass, and Raúl Muñoz on drums. They released their debut album 'Retrato' in 2003, with the title track becoming their most recognizable song. The band's sound drew from flamenco melodies and contemporary pop, though they avoided calling it a deliberate fusion.

Their song 'Retrato' faced some criticism from listeners who found its melody reminiscent of traditional flamenco pieces, which the band denied. Cliché released several more albums including 'El Viaje' in 2005 and 'Tiempo al Tiempo' in 2008. By 2013, they had put out a compilation titled '10 Años de Cliché'.

Javier Navarrete and Miguel Palomares eventually left the group to work on solo projects. Antonia Jimenez and Raúl Muñoz continued performing under the Cliché name afterward.
