Cliff Edge came out of Los Angeles in the early 2000s with a sound that leaned into alternative rock. Their debut album, 'Strangers in the Night,' arrived in 2003 and included the single 'The Distance,' which became their most recognizable track. The band was led by Ethan James on vocals and guitar, with Jake Harper on guitar, Gavin Reed on bass, and Oliver Carter on drums.
They followed up with 'Echoes of the Lost' in 2006 and 'The Edge of Infinity' in 2009, albums that showed some development in their approach. Other songs in their catalog include 'Endless tears,' 'Sayonara I Love You,' 'Aishiteru,' and 'Angel.' In 2012, they released a retrospective collection called 'Legacy.'
Ethan James had a reputation for being outspoken, and in 2004 he was arrested for disorderly conduct after an incident at a music festival. The band managed to keep going through that period. Their music, particularly 'The Distance,' found an audience that connected with its melodic drive and lyrical themes.
