Edwards started in vaudeville in the early 1920s and signed with Victor Records around 1924. He recorded songs like 'It's Only a Paper Moon' and 'Singin' In The Rain' with a light, playful vocal style. His work with the ukulele gave him his stage name and made the instrument more visible in popular music.
He moved to Hollywood in 1931 and did voice work for Disney beyond 'Pinocchio.' Edwards kept performing and recording through the 1940s and 1950s on radio and television, but it's the Jiminy Cricket role that stuck in public memory.
