Club 57 formed in Medellín, Colombia, in 1985 with five members: Santiago Cruz on vocals, Freddy León on guitar, Roberto Londoño on bass, Ricardo Escobar on keyboards, and Fabián Flórez on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 1989, which included the song "Ladrona." That track became a hit in Colombia and helped the band gain wider attention.

Their music included songs like "El Tiempo Corre Al Revés," "Algo Bueno Va a Pasar," and "Bailando En La Lluvia." They put out several albums through the 1990s, including "El Tiempo Es Oro" in 1990 and "Sentimientos" in 1994. In 1997, they released a live album called "En Vivo."

Around 1990, there were accusations that "Ladrona" used plagiarized material, which led to a legal settlement. The band broke up in 1997 after about a decade together, with members moving on to solo work.
