Club del Ragga formed in Barcelona's El Raval neighborhood in the late 1980s, with Josep Maria "Pepo" Moreno and Josep Maria "Pitu" Beltrán among the founding members. They started playing reggae with Catalan lyrics in underground clubs and community events, building a local following through live performances.
Their 1991 debut album "Catalunya Reggae" brought them wider attention, featuring the song "Mi hermano i yo" that became particularly well-known. The album's release coincided with some criticism about their lyrical content and language choices, though the group continued performing and recording.
In the years that followed, they put out more albums including "La venganza de los pobres" in 1992. Their music remained rooted in the reggae sound they'd developed in those Barcelona neighborhoods where they started.
