Coconut Records

Coconut Records was Jason Schwartzman's solo recording project that started in the early 2000s. The name came from a label he'd started with friends, but the music was mostly his own work. The first album, 'West Coast,' came out in 2003 and included the song 'Nighttiming.'

Schwartzman recorded much of the material at home, playing most instruments himself. The sound had a casual, sun-bleached quality that felt distinctly Californian. Songs like 'Drummer' and 'Easy Girl' had a straightforward indie pop feel with simple arrangements.

He released another album in 2009, but Coconut Records remained essentially a side project alongside his acting work. The music never aimed for grand statements, just well-crafted pop songs recorded when time allowed.
