Cog was an Australian alternative rock band that formed in 1999. Their lineup included Luke Hosking on vocals and guitar, Lucius Borich on lead guitar, Flynn Gower on bass, and Yannis Stavrou on drums. They put out four studio albums between 2003 and 2011, starting with 'The New Normal' and ending with 'Yes We Can'.
Their debut single 'Are You Interested?' gave a good sense of their sound, which pulled from progressive rock and metal with some electronic touches. Other tracks like 'Real Life' and 'Anarchy OK' showed their tendency to work with heavier textures and more complex arrangements than a lot of their peers.
The band went on hiatus in 2008 and had a brief reunion before disbanding for good around 2014. Hosking kept making music on his own after that. Their lyrics sometimes dealt with social or political themes, which could stir things up, but mostly they were known for that dense, layered rock sound.
