Coice de Burro formed in São Paulo in 1983, coming out of the city's underground metal scene. Their debut album came out in 1986. The band's sound mixed thrash metal with Brazilian rhythms, and their lyrics often tackled social issues and religious themes, which sometimes drew criticism. Their track 'Blues do Satanás' became a notable song for them.
The band responded by re-releasing it with a new title that referenced the censorship. The core lineup included vocalist Paulo 'Supla' Bornhausen, guitarist Ricardo 'Ricci' Confessori, bassist João 'Jão' Gordo, and drummer Hermes 'Hermes' Franco. They maintained a cult following in Brazil's metal scene.
