'Sweetest Smile' became a hit internationally. Vearncombe kept recording music through the 1990s and 2000s, with albums like 'The Big Lie,' 'Woke Up This Morning,' and 'Smoke and Mirrors.' He often worked alone, though he sometimes collaborated with other musicians.
In 1995, he was diagnosed with clinical depression. He also had legal disputes over the rights to his music. He died in 2016 after a car accident.
