Colírio Ácido formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 1990s. The original lineup included vocalist and guitarist Marcelo Elias, bassist Vinícius Gomes, and drummer Leonardo Reis. They released their self-titled debut album in 1994.
Their 1996 song "Eu Sou" sparked a national debate in Brazil due to its explicit lyrics and themes of drug use. The track faced censorship and bans from some radio stations, which gave the band a certain notoriety. They followed it with the album O Grande Cabeça that same year.
Colírio Ácido put out several more albums including Águas do Tempo in 1998 and A Fábrica dos Sonhos in 2005. The band disbanded in 2007.
