Colonia

Colonia formed in Paris in 1996 around producer Renaud Papillon Paravel. Their sound mixed Caribbean rhythms and African melodies with straightforward pop structures, which came together on their 1998 debut album 'OK.' That record included 'C'est la vie,' a track that became their most recognizable song internationally.

Beyond 'C'est la vie,' their catalog includes songs like 'Ti da bu di bu da,' 'Deja vu,' and 'Kao pahulja.' They released several more albums in the early 2000s, including 'El Camino' in 2000 and 'Les Infidèles' in 2002. The group's lineup featured vocalist Aziliz Manrow, bassist Patrice Caratini, and drummer Christophe Poncet alongside Papillon Paravel.

Their work sometimes drew attention for its lyrical content and visual presentation, though the specifics of those discussions have faded. What remains are the recordings themselves, a handful of albums that captured a particular blend of influences during that period.
