Comanova formed in the late 1990s with vocalist Fatima Sparnaay, guitarist Gerrit-Jan de Wilde, bassist Pascal deweze, and drummer Geert Bonne. Their debut album 'Welcome to the New World' came out in 1999, featuring the single 'Wishful Thinking' that gained them international attention.
Their music pulled from jazz, classical, and electronic elements, with Sparnaay's vocals floating over de Wilde's guitar work and Bonne's drumming. They released eight studio albums through 2021, including 'Discoteca' in 2001, 'The Visitor' in 2004, and 'Home' in 2021.
Some of their lyrics drew criticism for being outspoken, but they kept making music that mixed melodic textures with social themes. Their live shows were known for their energy.
