Combate Interno

Combate Interno came out of São Paulo in the early 1990s with Thaíde on vocals, DJ Hum on beats, and MC Primo rounding out the trio. Their debut album in 1993 put Brazilian hip-hop on a different track, mixing local rhythms with straightforward raps about city life. By 1996 they had 'Profecia Hip-Hop' on the album 'Só os Fortes,' which became something of an anthem.

They kept putting out records through the 2000s, like 'Direto do Campo de Batalha' in 2000 and 'Resistência' in 2002. The lyrics often dealt with social issues, and they faced some pushback from media outlets at the time. But their sound, DJ Hum's production underneath Thaíde and Primo's verses, found its audience without much compromise.
