Es war das Lied der Väter, doch sang man es auch später,

Und sitzt man fröhlich irgendwo beim Wein,
stimmt alles in den schönen Kantus ein:
Es steht ein Wirtshaus an der Lahn,
da klopft ein jeder gern mal an.
Frau Wirtin sitzt am Feuer, und jeder, der am Tische sitzt,
greift gern mal zu der Leier.
Frau Wirtin hatte auch einen Schrank,
zwei Meter breit, sechs Meter lang.
Drin war das Kraut der Rüben,
mit denen sie zur Jugendzeit die Rohkost hat betrieben.
Frau Wirtin hatte auch ein Huhn.
Das tat, was sonst nicht Hühner tun:
Es gackerte und pickte und stellte selbst dem Hahn ein Bein,
dieweil er Blümlein pflückte.
Frau Wirtin hat auch eine Magd.
Die hat ein tolles Spiel gewagt!
Sie tät' sich unterfangen und brächt' den Flöh 'n Quadrille bei.
Hei, wie die Tierchen sprangen!
Frau Wirtin hat der Tierchen zwei:
'nen Affen und 'nen Papagei.
Zwei Tierchen voll des Spaßes,
der Affe sagte: "Guten Tag", der Papagei vergaß es.
Frau Wirtin hat ein Aut'mobil
das in der ganzen Stadt auffiel.
Sechs ihrer stärksten Knechte ersetzten ihr des Motors Kraft,
Herrgott, wer das nicht möchte!
Frau Wirtin hat auch einen Kahn.
Drin fuhr sie sommers auf der Lahn.
Sie legt sich auf den Rücken und badet sich im Sonnenschein
trotz aller vielen Mücken.
Jüngst war'n wir selber an der Lahn
und sah'n uns die Frau Wirtin an.
Da müßen wir schon sagen, ihr Ruf ist zwar bedauerlich,
doch gut ist ihr Betragen.
