der schmetterte vom Lindenbaum

Und nebenan im Fliederstrauch
da piepte eine 'sie',

Da sang der kleine Finkenhahn:

Herzliebchen, komm und hör mich an!

Da piepte sie: Komm her, mein Schatz,

im Fliederstrauch ist auch noch Platz!
- piep, piep, piep .
Da zog der kleine Finkenhahn
hinüber zu der 'sie'
und schnäbelte drei Tage lang
in schönster Harmonie.
Im Anfang tat er sehr verliebt
und wurde gar nicht müd'.
Doch plötzlich fiel ihm auf: Sie piept
ja stets dasselbe Lied!
Da sang der kleine Finkenhahn:
- piep, piep, piep -
ich geh' mal'n bißchen nebenan!

Da piepte sie: Das geht nicht, nein!

Ich brauch' ein Nest, du ziehst mit ein!

Und wie gesagt, so ward getan,
das Nest war bald gebaut.
Der Dompfaff hat den Finkenhahn
höchst feierlich getraut.
Bald saß im Nest ein kleines Volk,
das laut nach Futter schrie.
Herr Finkenhahn sang gar nicht mehr,
holt Futter spät und früh!
Und traurig denkt der Finkenhahn:

Die Liebe ist ein leerer Wahn!
