Compositor Elimar Silva

Elimar Silva came up in Salvador, Bahia, where he absorbed the local sounds of samba and bossa nova. His music often carries a straightforward, soulful quality, with songs like 'Ponto Final' and 'Não Olhe Assim' reflecting everyday experiences without much ornamentation.

In 2006, his song 'Ponto Final' drew attention for its direct lyrics about domestic violence. The response was mixed, with some listeners appreciating its bluntness and others finding it troubling. That moment put Silva in a different kind of spotlight, one that had less to do with musical trends and more with how people react to uncomfortable subjects.

He has put out records fairly steadily since the late '90s, including 'Raiz' in 1998, 'Um Homem Só' in 2002, and 'A Gente Mora no Agora' in 2010. His band has included Jorge Silva on bass, Márcio Porto on drums, and André Becker on keyboards and accordion.
