Condessa Safira

Condessa Safira was born Safira Rosa dos Santos in 1943. She began performing in the early 1960s, singing in Rio de Janeiro nightclubs and festivals. Her voice drew comparisons to singers like Nara Leão and Elis Regina.

In 1969, she recorded '11 de Maio,' a song written by Chico Buarque. It became her most well-known work. Other songs in her catalog include 'A ultima Canção' and 'Canção Do Romance Autodestrutivo.'

She worked with musicians like Vinicius de Moraes and Baden Powell. Her band included Antônio Adolfo on piano and Maciel Salu on guitar. Some of her music was censored during Brazil's political climate in the 1960s and 1970s.
